Remember, Data & Technology resumes typically include...

  • Skills section that includes the specific names of software, programming languages, or processes that you're proficient in
  • Software or programming certifications
  • Relevant coursework related to application or web development, programming languages, or information security.

Pro Tip: Look at the job description and see what is listed first then consider ordering your resume to show the skills you have that match.

If a role is heavily focused on programming languages and software, move that higher up on your resume and categorize your skills section to feature software, hardware, programming, and additional skills separately. Include any projects, hackathons, industry-relevant conferences attended, etc.

Federal Resume Resources

Federal resumes are used to apply to government jobs and internships on USAJOBS. They differ from resumes used in the private sector in a few key ways*:

Federal resumes...

  • Are used to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications and requirements for a job announcement
  • Can be multiple pages long to include all experiences
  • Includes more details of background and all experiences such as hourly wage/salary, supervisor's title and contact information, hours worked per week, veteran status, security clearance, etc.

Civilian resumes (Private Sector)...

  • Are used as a marketing tool to get an interview
  • Should be kept to 1-2 pages maximum to summarize your most relevant experience
  • Do not include personal details like country of citizenship, street address, salary history, or references
