Bellevue University Students in Nebraska have an amazing opportunity to receive up to $10,000 per academic year in specific programs. Learn more about the Nebraska Career Scholarship program and how to qualify today.
The Nebraska state legislature has allocated money for scholarships for undergraduate students in high-demand fields to help fill critical workforce needs in the state of Nebraska. First-time Bellevue University students (freshman, transfer students and continuing Bellevue University students, who don't already hold a degree) who reside in Nebraska can use a Nebraska Career Scholarship for tuition, fees, required tools and equipment including books, on-campus room and board. A select list of degree and certificate programs qualify for use of this scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded for up to $10,000 per academic year (AY) and may be renewable each year, subject to eligibility requirements and available funding. The Nebraska Career Scholarship Program is a collaboration between the State of Nebraska's Department of Economic Development, Department of Labor and the Coordinating Commission for Post-Secondary Education and Nebraska colleges.
You may qualify for the scholarship if you are:
Eligible students who are admitted to Bellevue University in qualifying degree programs can apply for this scholarship. Complete the following steps:
To qualify for the scholarship, you must be enrolled at Bellevue University in one of the following academic degree programs, which may be either online or in class:
As a scholarship recipient you must be living in Nebraska while receiving the scholarship (but can be from another state, originally).
Bellevue University's Nebraska Career Scholarship offers annual funding of up to $10,000.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four academic years (See conditions for renewal).
The funds are applicable to tuition, fees, required tools and equipment, on-campus room and board.
The scholarship funds can be combined with other funding sources.
Completing the FAFSA is NOT required, however it is encouraged so you may be offered a comprehensive aid package.
To continue to receive the scholarship in subsequent academic years,
If your major/program changes to an ineligible program, you will no longer receive the scholarship the following term. If you continue in another eligible program, and meet other requirements, you can continue to receive the scholarship.
Transfers who come into Bellevue University that had been receiving the Nebraska Career Scholarship at another institution may be awarded at our discretion as long as their eligibility is still met.
Each student who receives the Nebraska Career Scholarship has the responsibility to secure and complete a Nebraska-based internship, apprenticeship, clinical position, or major-related field employment prior to their final term while on scholarship in order to continue receiving the scholarship. There is no guarantee of an internship/experience and no placement service, but if you complete the required and recommended "Steps Toward an Internship or Other Experience," you should be on-track to complete your internship on time or even early.
An internship, apprenticeship, clinical position, or employment in a field related to your major will count as an internship or experience, if the location of the experience is in Nebraska.
There are lots of resources to help: Career Services offers resources on their webpage, virtual workshop events, or you can search independently for internships opportunities on Handshake or other job resource sites.
Great! We expect this to happen for some students, especially those who complete the required and recommended steps early and stay in touch with their student coach. A Nebraska-based internship or experience can be completed any time between the start of your enrollment with Bellevue University and prior to the final term of your program. You will still need to complete any ongoing required steps even if you complete a Nebraska-based experience early. We encourage you to seek out additional internships and will continue to support you in doing so.
While most internships related to the disciplines included in the Nebraska Career Scholarship do offer pay, the wages related to employment are up to each individual organization. Other types of experiences may or may not pay. Students seeking support and more information on this should contact Career Services for assistance.
Students who drop out or stop out from an eligible program can no longer receive the funding in the following term. Talk to your Student Coach to discuss what options are available to you.
