Writing Help for Non-native English Speakers
We understand that students who speak English as an additional or other language may often benefit from assistance in the Writing Center. We also recognize that the help provided to these students may be different from the assistance needed by native English speakers.
If you are an English language learner, it is best if you can meet with our consultants in a more interactive way (face-to-face on campus or by videoconference/Zoom).
If those options are not available to you, you may use the online review option. Using the online review option can be challenging because the consultant will not be able to ask you questions as they read your paper, and it may be hard for you to read the consultant’s feedback and understand it clearly.
If the online review option is the only option available to you at first, consider a two-appointment approach. You can schedule a second, follow-up appointment after that. In the second appointment, the consultant can meet with you on Zoom (or on campus) to discuss their feedback with you and answer questions.
